Senior Movie Club April: The Warriors

Friday 1 April / 6 – 9pm

Cyrus, the leader of the most powerful gang in New York City, the Gramercy Riffs, calls a midnight summit for all the area gangs, with all asked to send nine unarmed representatives for the conclave. A gang called The Warriors are blamed for killing Cyrus as he gives his speech. They now have to cross the territory of rivals in order to get to their own ‘hood. The Warriors slowly cross the dangerous Bronx and Manhattan territories, narrowly escaping police and other gangs every step of the way.

Junior Movie Club June: The Wizard of Oz

Thursday 2nd June / 4 – 6pm

Dorothy lives on a farm in Kansas until a cyclone arrives, and picks her, her house, and her dog up and deposits them in the land of Oz. Things in Oz are strange and beautiful, but Dorothy just wants to get back home. She’s helped by the Good Witch of the North, but she’s also in trouble with the Wicked Witch of the West, who seeks revenge for the death of her sister; the Wicked Witch of the East, for which she blames Dorothy.

Junior Movie Club May: The Muppets

Walter is a Muppet whose ambition is to visit the Muppet Theater in Hollywood. One day, he gets the opportunity to go, with his brother Gary and his girlfriend Mary. However, when they arrive they are saddened by the state that the theater has got into. When Walter discovers that oil magnate Tex Richman intends to buy the theater to drill for oil, he, Gary and Mary travel far and wide to reunite the disbanded Muppets. Together again, the Muppets must put on a show and try to keep their theater.

When Oh, a loveable misfit from another planet, lands on Earth and finds himself on the run from his own people, he forms an unlikely friendship with an adventurous girl named Tip who is on a quest of her own. Through a series of comic adventures with Tip, Oh comes to understand that being different and making mistakes is all part of being human. And while he changes her planet and she changes his world, they discover the true meaning of the word HOME.

Café Flicker – Glasgow’s monthly open screen

Thursday 4 February 7-9pm

At Café Flicker the silver screen’s open to all music videos, short films and docs or adverts up to 15 minutes long, made by local independent filmmakers. It’s a great place to meet other industry professionals, see what people are making or get feedback on your work in progress. We screen up to 7 films per night and have a vote at the end of the night to select a monthly winner. At the end of the year, all monthly winners are in the chance of winning our annual ‘Big Flick’ award!

Everyone is welcome at Café Flicker – participating filmmakers and GMAC Members can come along for free, tickets are £3 for all others. We run Café Flicker every 1st Thursday of the month. If you’d like to submit your film, complete a form and send us a DVD or digital video file as per our guidelines:

Senior Movie Club February: 500 Days of Summer

Friday 5th February / 6 – 9pm

He’s Tom, from New Jersey, working in L.A. writing greeting cards even through he’s an architect by training. She’s Summer, in from Michigan. Day one is her first day as an AA in Tom’s office. We jump back and forth in time: by day 67, they’ve become an item when she decides to put aside the lovemaking and just be friends. Tom, a romantic who’s sure Summer is the one for him, wallows in self pity. We go back to the early days and see the relationship begin. Summer tells him right away that she doesn’t believe in love. He mopes well past day 100. Then, as day 500 approaches, they find themselves at a wedding together. Does the old flame rekindle? Is Tom right that destiny controls love?
