In 1950s Edinburgh, Dolly the laboratory frog is injected with mysterious liquid. As a strange metamorphosis takes hold, she inhabits the world of Jeanie, and the pressures that await a young, unmarried woman in 1950s Scotland. As both frog and girl face an unknowable future, their anxieties become tenderly entwined. Inspired by the early science of pregnancy tests, Toad Test playfully examines the uncertainties of potential motherhood.
