We are deeply saddened by Paddy Higson’s passing, aged 83. As our former CEO and first Patron, Paddy’s contribution to the organisation, our staff and our participants is difficult to put into words. So many people’s lives have been touched by her incredible generosity, dedication and encouragement.
Paddy has been a noteworthy name in the film and television industry since the 1970s – producing, line-producing and exec producing drama, including Gregory’s Girl (1980), Taggart (1990), and The Magdalene Sisters (2000). She was made an Honorary Doctor of Drama by the RSAMD (now Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) in 2007 and was awarded a BAFTA for her Outstanding Contribution to the Industry by BAFTA Scotland in 2018.
Right into the twilight years of her career, she was striving towards fostering a diverse and accessible screen sector, creating several schemes to help people from all backgrounds into film and calling for government and industry support.
We are so grateful for all that Paddy has done for the Scottish Film industry, GMAC and its people throughout the years. Our thoughts are with her family and close friends at this difficult time.
