GMAC is excited to annouce a new chapter in its 40 year history, confirming our move to the Pyramid at Anderston. This is a partnership that will see the organisation return o the heart of community-based cultural activity while laying the foundations for its future.

This move marks a major step in GMAC’s journey toward its 50th anniversary, as the organisation works to reimagine its role in Scotland’s screen sector and the communities it serves. At the core of this new partnership is a plan to collaboratively develop a new community cinema space in Anderston, creating an accessible, welcoming hub for film, learning, and creative exchange.

This is a move driven by shared values. The Pyramid’s commitment to community, participation, and access aligns with GMAC’s mission to support media literacy, champion diverse voices, and provide meaningful opportunities for people to engage with film and screen culture.

David Williams, Director of GMAC:

“We are thrilled to have moved after months of uncertainty.  The Pyramid is an amazing community centre, and GMAC’s roots are deeply embedded in supporting underrepresented communities – this new partnership offers GMAC the opportunity to create a new set of film education projects for Anderston, Glasgow and beyond.”

Ailsa MacKenzie, Chief Officer of The Pyramid:

“We are delighted to welcome GMAC to The Pyramid. By combining our shared values, joint expertise, and resources, we can offer fantastic new creative opportunities, including an upgraded community cinema. This is a win for the communities we both serve.”

While we look forward with optimism, we do so without losing sight of the wider picture. Glasgow is at a critical moment for its cultural infrastructure, and the loss of spaces like Trongate 103 would have lasting consequences for the city’s creative ecosystem. We are not stepping away; we are stepping forward, while continuing to stand our ground.

To support this transition, GMAC has launched a JustGiving campaign to ask for your help. The move to a new space is complex and resource-intensive, and this fundraising effort will help us:

  • Bridge the gap between leaving Trongate 103 and fully establishing our new home.
  • Expanding our support and bringing more accessible events to our community
  • Contribute to the development of the new community cinema at The Pyramid

We are calling on our community, partners, and supporters to help us build something lasting and transformative from it.
