Youth Programme: Summer Screenwriting Course
The Youth Programme are excited to be running a free short screenwriting course over the summer! If you are 16 – 25 and interested in screenwriting then this is for you. Structured as a series of workshops exploring storytelling in short films, you will learn some ‘fundamental’ ideas of story, though the strength comes in discussing and developing your work by exploring its depths with others.
Course Dates & Deadlines
Due to the nature of the development of a project, the session dates are separated with time to allow the writing of drafts. Please be sure you are available all the below dates. Sessions run 11am – 3pm.
Session 1 | 18th July | Intro to Story
Session 2 | 19th July | Character + Brief
Session 3 | 20th July | Breaking a Story + Setting First Draft Homework
First Draft Deadline – 28th July at 10am
Session 4 | 1st Aug | 1-1 Sessions Discussing Headline Notes (online)
Session 5 | 2nd Aug | Scene Work
Session 6 | 3rd Aug | Revision and Second Draft Set
Second Draft Deadline – 11th August at 10am
Session 7 | 12th Aug | 1-1 Sessions & Final Notes (online)
Please note the above deadlines throughout the course that are for drafts of your scripts. Participants will be expected to work on these drafts in their own time out with the scheduled course dates.
One of the scripts will be produced as part of our BFI Film Academy, which will run from September to February. Writers are still able to apply to join the Film Academy if they are eligible (16 – 19-year-olds).
